Tatiana Gardel is a Brazilian-born illustrator and animation instructor based in New York City. She started her career as a painter and while exploring other ways to express her creativity she discovered a passion for illustration and animation.

She is the illustrator of the upcoming picture books The First Day of Peace by Todd Schuster with Maya Soetoro-Ng (Candlewick Press, August 2023), Abuelo, the Sea, and Me by Ismée Williams (Roaring Brook Press, 2024), Painting the Sky with Love by Mary Baca Haque (Feiwel & Friends, 2024), and Xavier’s Voice by Ashley Franklin (Innovation Press, 2024).

Her work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators in New York and American Illustration AI-AP. She co-founded #LatinxPitch. She is a member of the Black Creators HQ, the Children’s Book Illustrators Group, and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She currently teaches animation to young artists at the Harlem School of the Arts.
